“Does God want goodness or the choice of goodness? Is a man who chooses
to be bad perhaps in some way better than a man who has the good imposed
upon him?”

A Clockwork Orange (1971) dir. Stanley Kubrick

This is actually one of my favorite moments of the film.  You tend to forget that he’s a teenager, because of the terrible things he does throughout the film….but in this scene….he’s a kid. His parents are kicking him out and have essentially replaced him with a “new son”.  And his snake, Basil, is gone.  Basil was the only living creature he gave a damn about and for Alex to lose him is such a punch in the gut.

It’s the only time I feel sorry for him.
